SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION:  The successful candidate for the position of Microbiology Production Manager will be responsible for all organism production either at the company or by a toll-manufacturer.  This person will manage Trichoderma spore production and QC, train lab personnel, as well as, projects for new and current product development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Manage microbial production, QC of inputs, actives and finished products
  • Work with toll-manufacturers to obtain raw actives and finished products
  • Collaborate with R&D department; carry out projects for product testing or new product development
  • Media and culture preparation
  • Maintain/clean laboratory equipment such as incubators, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters and fermenters
  • Follow protocols and SOPs established by the R&D Department
  • Maintain accurate records and report results to management
  • Perform strain identification and quality using microscopes and other microbiology techniques
  • Supervise and train laboratory employees to make sure that the lab is running efficiently
  • Additional duties as assigned

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THIS JOB:
  • Strong understanding of and practical experience in aseptic and microbiology laboratory techniques
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge/use of Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word, ability to learn new software
  • Experience working with laboratory equipment such as pipettes, pH meters, water activity meters, balances, centrifuges, microscopes, etc.
  • Understanding of microbial growth and fermentation principles
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Knowledge and experience with microorganisms beneficial to agriculture is a plus
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Master of Science Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry with 2+ years of laboratory and/or fermentation experience in an agriculture or industry setting.
