The District Sales Manager position is responsible to carry out all sales and marketing activities in DelMarVa so as to maintain, develop and grow the overall sales volume in that territory in a manner which maximizes profitability.

  • Plan and organize sales activities and customer/prospect contact towards achieving agreed business goals.
  • Plan and develop dealer/distributor network in specified territory according to agreed market development strategy.
  • Motivate dealers and distributors to promote the portfolio of products and services.
  • Educate growers, dealers & distributors on new products.
  • Conduct direct farm visits to growers in order to promote and sell the portfolio of products.
  • Conduct direct visits to dealers and distributors to assist in selling the portfolio of products.
  • Sell and service equipment related to application of the fertilizer products.
  • Install and help to install equipment as related to the application of the fertilizer products.
  • Sell storage tanks as related to storage of the fertilizer products.
  • Deliver fertilizer, parts & equipment and storage tanks to dealers and farmers as required.
  • Conduct grower meetings to promote the use of the products. 
  • Attend farm shows to promote the use of the products and services.
  • Locate and develop test plot locations as it relates to the research & development program.
  • Manage and collect accounts receivable as required to keep receivables current.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural field preferred
  • 3 or more years of experience in agricultural sales role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel, 75% overnight travel required
  • Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office, CRM, etc.
This job requires an agronomy background. The job also requires a degree in agriculture and the ability to cold call and face-to-face sales call customers, retailers and farmers.

  • Report to agronomy manager and report a minimum of 3-5 daily sales calls
  • Build and maintain relationship with all assigned customers from initial contact, through to sale, and follow up, as necessary
    • Meet with existing and potential customers
    • Includes prospecting and cold calls
  • Develop agronomy plans for current customers
  • Utilize seed programs and grow the seed business 
    • Includes test plots and side by sides
  • Create written estimates, based on needs of customer, and finalize the sale
  • Maintain customer files/records/history/contracts/agreements
  • Coordinate with other reps the delivery of customer appreciation holiday gifts
  • Research and write two articles for the quarterly newsletter
    • Product pricing and promotion
    • Growing season news and notes
    • Helpful tips
    • New laws or regs
    • Other pertinent information, etc
  • Attend meetings, seminars, courses, or on-line study to complete Continuing Education credits as needed to maintain licenses and credentials
  • Perform scouting duties for customer base throughout growing season for short and long term product and/or services
    • Identification of weeds/insects/diseases/nutrient deficiencies
    • Determine recommendation of products/services including proper rate and timing
    • Share recommendations with customer and agree on plan of action
  • Complete all order sheets and paperwork for any sales of product or services including deliveries.
    • Fill out order sheets completely and accurately
    • Attach GIS field maps 
    • Work with logistics manager to schedule jobs
  • Work with AR dept with customer questions
  • Follow other management directives for the good of the business and other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have experience in agronomy input sales and a working knowledge of Northern Ohio farm production practices.
